System Requirements
The hardware requirements for iStopMotion are hard to define. The more RAM you have, the better. The processor speed also helps. The slowest Mac we tested on was the first generation DV iMac with reasonable results. The graphics card also plays a major role. The movie preview will display in a lower resolution if your graphics card does not have enough memory. This does however not affect the quality of the recorded movies.
iStopMotion
- Mac OS X v10.3 or newer, Mac OS X Tiger strongly recommended
(Mac OS X v10.2.x users please stay with iStopMotion 1.5,
Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger" users please get version 1.8.1 or later.) - QuickTime 6.4 or newer, QuickTime 7.1 or later is strongly recommended
- Graphics Card with OpenGL support
- Supported camera*
- USB/FireWire Webcam with QuickTime driver**
Still Camera Plugin
- Mac OS X v 10.3 or newer
- Digital Still Camera***
* In theory any DV camera that works with iMovie or Final Cut Pro should also work with iStopMotion. Please use the free demo license to check if your camera works. Apple iSight requires iChat AV (included with Mac OS X 10.3)
** Macam or IOExperts have drivers for a large range of cameras.
***If your camera supports the Picture Transfer Protocol, iStopMotion can now import pictures from the camera. If your camera supports Remote Capture, iStopMotion can trigger a shot and import it right away. Please read the information about the Still Camera Plugin for more information.
